Overview
CEDLAW, the 4-year, EU-funded Action of the international organization COST Association titled “Global Atrocity Justice Constellations” (CA18228), and the Institute of European Integration and Policy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece), co-organize the international conference “One World, Many Crises: Politics, Law, and Beyond” on 7 and 8 March 2024 at the Amphitheater “Ioannis Drakopoulos” of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Panepistimiou 30, 10679, Athens, Greece).
35 academics and researchers from 12 countries (USA, UK, Netherlands, Sweden, Ireland, etc.) will present papers on, inter alia, contemporary global challenges (primarily related to the crisis of democratic governance), health policies (including past and future crises), environmental issues (primarily climate change), and artifical intelligence (deep neural networks, machine learning).
Attendance to the conference is open and free, only in physical presence, following registration at the location of the conference. The language of the conference will be English with no simultaneous interpretation.

The Director of CEDLAW, Professor Ioannis Papadopoulos, is the Scientific Coordinator of the conference, and the Head of Operations and Research of CEDLAW, Dr. Alexandros Kyriakidis, the Organizing Coordinator. The conference is sponsored by the Research Committee of the University of Macedonia (Greece).

Announcement and Call for Papers (expired)
You may submit a paper or panel proposal for the conference by completing the proposal form in this page by 14 January 2024 31 December 2023. Authors will be notified of the results by 20 January 2024 10 January 2024. Further details for the conference and the ways to regsiter and attend will be announced in due course.
The aim of the conference is to address:
- the current global challenges, notably the crisis of democratic governance, populism, disinformation, etc.;
- the impact of an increasingly globalized world on legal and political governance, especially in terms of crises (e.g., the war in Ukraine) or adjudicating bodies (e.g., ICC or ICJ);
- the past and possible future health issues, including crises and responses (e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic) as well as bioethical concerns (e.g., cultured food);
- the environmental issues within the ongoing climate change debate, including impact on humans (e.g., sustainable growth, environmental protection);
- the growing concerns over Artificial Intelligence and its impact on humans.
The above may be addressed at a national, regional, and/or global level through a multidimensional and multidisciplinary approach from the perspectives of political science, social science, law, medicine, philosophy, and history/anthropology, etc. The thematic areas of the conference draw primarily, either from a theoretical or an applied (e.g., case studies) perspective, from: democratic theory, transnational/local governance, and public policy; international and national/comparative law, including the judiciary; EU politics, institutions, integration, democracy; and health studies, governance, management. Panels/papers on additional areas may be considered.
